Bruce Mohr Powell Surtees was an American cinematographer, the son of Robert L. Surtees. He is best known for his extensive work on Clint Eastwood's films, mostly westerns of the 1970s and early 1980s. His filming style has been compared to that of the Dollars trilogy of Sergio Leone. In 1971 he was director of photography on Dirty Harry. He died of complications of diabetes.

Steve Kordek was an American businessman of Polish origin who was best known for the design of the pinball machines. Kordek is credited with designing over 100 pinball machines. The last game Kordek helped design was 2003's Vacation America, based on the National Lampoon's Vacation movies. Among the companies that Kordek designed for are Genco, Williams and Bally. Kordek was credited with many innovations to pinball machines. He revised the pin game machines of the 1930s by including putting two outward-facing flippers at the bottom of the playing field that were controlled by two buttons on the side of the machine. Other innovations still used today are drop targets and multi-ball mode.

He was a Dutch mathematician, affiliated as professor emeritus with the Eindhoven University of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in 1943 from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. De Bruijn covered many areas of mathematics. He is especially noted for the discovery of the De Bruijn sequence. He is also partly responsible for the De Bruijn–Newman constant, the De Bruijn–Erdős theorem (in both incidence geometry and graph theory) and the BEST theorem. He wrote one of the standard books in advanced asymptotic analysis (De Bruijn, 1958). De Bruijn also worked on the theory of Penrose tilings. In the late sixties, he designed the Automath language for representing mathematical proofs, so that they could be verified automatically (see automated theorem checking). Shortly before his death, he had been working on models for the human brain.

He also regularly employed yorikiri (the force out) and kotenage (the arm lock throw). In 2003 he suffered an acute myocardial infarction, but it proved not to be life-threatening and he made an immediate recovery.

As an STS-99 crew member on the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, she and her fellow crew members worked continuously in shifts to produce what was at the time the most accurate digital topographical map of the Earth.

He played one of the lead roles in the Independent horror film River of Darkness alongside Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash and "Psycho" Sid Vicious, a.k.a. Sid Eudy. Fraza appeared to be talking on a cellphone when he was hit by a MBTA train on the tracks along Hale Street just before 1:30 a.m., police Deputy Chief Donald Thompson said. The collision happened near Fraza's home at 7 Mulberry St. Police said they are investigating why the Haverhill native was on the tracks at the time. The train was travelling 35 mph, police said. After a successful boxing performance on NBC's "The Contender" Fraza had lost his contract for a series of televised fights. A successful boxer for several years, he recently had been training young boxers in Haverhill. "The Contender" was a reality-based television show which aired in 2005. It focused on the lives of a group of boxers, competing against one another. It was hosted by boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard and celebrity Sylvester Stallone.

He was a racing driver from Le Mans, France. He participated in 16 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 13 August 1972, but scored no championship points. Migault's first attempt in Formula One in 1972 was with the small, underfunded Connew team that managed to start in only one race. In 1974, he drove almost a complete season with British Racing Motors after both BRM drivers of 1973, Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni, had moved to Ferrari. In 1975, a few races with the ill-fated Hill team and Williams followed. In Formula Two that year, Migault achieved some success with an Osella FA2, scoring one point. A native of Le Mans, he also entered many 24 Hours of Le Mans races, from the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans to the 2002 24 Hours of Le Mans. Migault died on 29 January 2012 after a long battle with cancer.

Angelopoulos died late on Tuesday, 24 January 2012, several hours after being involved in an accident while shooting his latest film in Athens. The respected filmmaker had been with his crew in the area of Drapetsona, near Piraeus when he was hit by a motorcycle, driven by a special guard of greek police, on Tuesday evening. The accident occurred when Angelopoulos, 76, attempted to cross a busy road. He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated in an intensive care unit but succumbed to his serious injuries several hours later.

Farentino was arrested in Vancouver, British Columbia, on July 23, 1991, after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police intercepted a package containing 3.2 grams of cocaine being sent to his hotel room. Farentino was in town filming the TV movie, "Miles From Nowhere". He was charged with cocaine possession and released on bail. Farentino died of heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a long illness.

On January 10, 2012, Burke was seriously injured while training on the Park City Mountain Resort Eagle superpipe in Park City, Utah. This is the same superpipe where snowboarder Kevin Pearce was seriously injured in 2009. Onlookers reported that Burke had completed a trick fairly well yet fell onto her head, and the accident did not appear to be very severe. Moments later, however, she went into cardiac arrest while still on the ski slope, making her chance of survival extremely low. She was resuscitated and airlifted to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she was reported to be in a coma. The following day, she underwent neurosurgery to repair a tear in a vertebral artery. She succumbed to her injuries on January 19, 2012. Per her publicist's words, Burke's injuries had resulted in "irreversible damage to her brain due to lack of oxygen and blood after cardiac arrest." Her organs and tissues were donated as she requested before her death.

Mika Ahola announced his retirement from enduro racing on New Year's Day 2012. Ahola died of internal injuries on 15 January 2012 at a hospital in Barcelona, a few weeks after crashing while training in Girona, Spain. The question is that he had been to hospital just after the crash, and released after being told everything was OK. His health then deteriorated at the point that he returned to the hospital for a kidneytomy. But nothing could be done to avoid the tragic end.
