Madeleine Jana Korbel Albright (born Marie Jana Korbelová) was an American diplomat and political scientist who served as the 64th United States secretary of state from 1997 to 2001. A member of the Democratic Party, Albright was the first woman to hold the post. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Albright immigrated to the United States after the 1948 communist coup d'état when she was eleven years old. Her father, diplomat Josef Korbel, settled the family in Denver, Colorado, and she became a U.S. citizen in 1957. Albright graduated from Wellesley College in 1959 and earned a PhD from Columbia University in 1975, writing her thesis on the Prague Spring. She worked as an aide to Senator Edmund Muskie from 1976 to 1978, before serving as a staff member on the National Security Council under Zbigniew Brzezinski. She served in that position until 1981, when President Jimmy Carter left office. After leaving the National Security Council, Albright joined the academic faculty of Georgetown University in 1982 and advised Democratic candidates regarding foreign policy. Following the 1992 presidential election, Albright helped assemble President Bill Clinton's National Security Council. Secretary Albright served in that capacity until President Clinton left office in 2001. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in May 2012. Albright served on the board of the Council on Foreign Relations. Colonna
Yvan. 2022-03-21

61

Born 1960-04-07. Domain:Society. Cause of death:Murder

Yvan Colonna is a Corsican nationalist convicted for assassination. He is the son of Jean-Hugues Colonna, a former member of the National Assembly for the Socialist Party elected in the Alpes-Maritimes and a recipient of the French Légion d'honneur. On the 6th of February 1998 at 9:05 pm, the prefect of Corsica, Claude Érignac, was assassinated as he exited a theatre onto rue Colonna-d'Ornano in Ajaccio. He was shot receiving three 9 mm bullets in the neck, and died shortly thereafter. The weapon was shown to be one of the weapons stolen in the attack on the Gendarmerie Nationale station in Pietrosella on 6 September 1997. An enquiry followed, which resulted in the arrest of several militants. Interrogation pointed towards Yvan Colonna as the culprit. Police went to question him, but he had already fled. This sparked the biggest manhunt in French history, and Colonna was thought to have left the country, possibly for South America. However, an infrared camera set in the mountains of Corsica, near Vico as surveillance of a bergerie, a traditional Corsican stone hut, yielded evidence that Colonna was hiding here. He was arrested on the 4th of June 2003. Charged with assassination and being a member of a terrorist organisation, he was arraigned before the court of special cases in Paris from 12 November 2007. The court was in session until 12 December 2007. During his internment awaiting trial, he has repeatedly claimed innocence, and that he is the victim of unfair press coverage, convicting him before trial. On 13 December 2007, Colonna was pronounced guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. He has since appealed. On 20 June 2011, Colonna's conviction was upheld on appeal. He was serving his life sentence in the Toulon-La Farlède detention centre where he was assassinated by an other inmate. On 2 March 2022, Colonna was attacked in prison by Franck Elong Abé, an Islamist 36-year-old Cameroonian inmate, reportedly for "disrespecting Muhammad". In response, violent unrest broke out across Corsica. After spending three weeks in a coma at a hospital, he died of his wounds on 21 March 2022, at the age of 61.

Jean-Claude Mézières was a French bandes dessinées artist and illustrator. Born in Paris and raised in Saint-Mandé, he was introduced to drawing by his older brother and influenced by comics artists such as Hergé, Andre Franquin and Morris and later by Jijé and Jack Davis. Educated at the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art, he worked upon graduation as an illustrator for books and magazines as well as in advertising. Guy (alias: Guy de la Motte-Bouloumié). 2022-01-23

102

Born 1920-01-24. Domain:Society. Cause of death:Age

Guy de la Motte-Bouloumié was not always Guy de la Motte-Bouloumié. More precisely, he wasn't always called like this. On Christmas Eve 1920, he was indeed born Guy Maigre de la Motte, into a noble family from Dauphiné; the Bouloumié line being originating in Rodez. It was not until July 1, 1960, at the age of almost 40, that the man who was to become the great builder of the city of Vittel and the ardent promoter of the Vittel brand throughout the world changed his surname and added to his birth name that of Louis Bouloumié, the founder of the spa. An act directly linked to the thermal epic. Entered in 1947 as an accountant at the Société des eaux after graduating from Sciences Po, this young man, who had just distinguished himself during the liberation of France, was in fact entrusted with the management of the plant two years later. And not by an anonymous board of directors, but by his aunt and uncle, Marie Germaine dite Germaine and Jean Bouloumié, the grandchildren of Louis, who then ran the Company. After Jean's death at the age of 74 in 1952, Germaine, Edith's first cousin, Pierre Bouloumié's daughter and Guy's mother, chose her nephew, whom it is said that she loved him like her son, to succeed her in the management of the family business. In order to facilitate the future handover, which will be effective in 1972, she therefore officially adopts it during the summer of 1960. It was at this time that Guy Maigre de la Motte became Guy Maigre de la Motte-Bouloumié, shortened in Guy de la Motte-Bouloumié.

On July 11, 2015, he flew to San Francisco to speed his recovery with an aggressive rehabilitation program at UCSF Medical Center. He returned to France on January 8, 2016. Jean-Jacques Beineix ([bɛnɛks]) was a French film director whose work is generally seen as the best example of what came to be called the cinéma du look. Critic Ginette Vincendeau defined the films made by Beineix and others as "youth-oriented films with high production values...The look of the cinéma du look refers to the films' high investment in non-naturalistic, self-conscious aesthetics, notably intense colours and lighting effects. Their spectacular (studio based) and technically brilliant mise-en-scène is usually put to the service of romantic plots." The cinéma du look included the films of Luc Besson and Léos Carax. Luc Besson, like Beineix, was much maligned by the critical establishment during the 1980s, while Carax was much admired. In late 2006, Beineix published a first volume of his autobiography, Les Chantiers de la gloire (in French only). The title alluded to the French title of Stanley Kubrick's film, Les Sentiers de la gloire (Paths of Glory).
