Abella
Kirk. 2010-10-30

32

Born 1978-00-00. Domain:Performing. Cause of death:Murder

The role of his life.
A village watchman in the central Philippines allegedly mistook an actor playing a masked gunman in a British film for a real assassin and fatally shot him, police said Monday. Watchman Eddie Cuizon tried to accost Filipino actor Kirk Abella late Saturday then shot him as the actor was directed to speed away on a motorcycle with a masked driver, said community police chief Alexis Relado of central Cebu city's Parian district. Cuizon, 52, told police he was sleeping and was woken up by a concerned citizen who reported the presence of armed men in his community. He told police he saw two masked men on a motorcycle and approached them but they sped away and he stumbled as he tried to stop them, injuring his knee. He fired at Abella when the actor pulled out a gun, which turned out to be made of plastic, Relado said. Many street killings in the Philippines, including those of political activists and journalists, have been perpetrated by motorcycle-riding gunmen. Abella, 32, was acting in "Going Somewhere," being filmed by British theatre and film director Alan Lyddiard in Cebu, Relado said. It was supposed to be the final take of a scene where Abella's character was to be involved in a drive-by shooting, the police chief said. Abella died later in a hospital and Cuizon immediately surrendered to the police after he realized what happened, police said. Volunteer watchmen in communities around the country help police keep the peace, patrol the streets and implement curfews. They are normally armed only with batons and are not supposed to carry firearms. Cuizon told police he just borrowed the pistol he used but refused to identify from whom, Relado said. Cuizon will be charged with homicide and for violation of a gun ban, Relado said.

He plays a film director in Dennis Hopper's ill-fated The Last Movie (1971). Martin Scorsese praised Fuller's ability to capture action through camera movement. Recently, Quentin Tarantino and Jim Jarmusch credited Fuller as influential upon their works.

"...car enfin, ce Tiers Monde ignoré, exploité, méprisé comme le Tiers Etat, veut lui aussi, être quelque chose"
"...because at the end this ignored, exploited, scorned Third World like the Third Estate, wants to become something too".
In using the expression Third World here he was paraphrasing Sieyès's famous sentence about the Third Estate during the French Revolution.

Dunant
Henri. 1910-10-30

82

Born 1828-05-08. Domain:Society. Cause of death:Age

He was a Swiss businessman and social activist. During a business trip in 1859, he was witness to the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino in modern day Italy. He recorded his memories and experiences in the book A Memory of Solferino which inspired the creation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1863. The 1864 Geneva Convention was based on Dunant's ideas; In 1901 he received the first Nobel Peace Prize together with Frédéric Passy.
He lived in the nursing home in Heiden until his death. In the final years of his life, he suffered from depression and paranoia about pursuit by his creditors and Moynier. There were even days when Dunant insisted that the cook of the nursing home first taste his food before his eyes to protect him against possible poisoning. Although he continued to profess Christian beliefs, in his final years he spurned and attacked Calvinism and organized religion generally.
According to his nurses, the final act of his life was to send a copy of Müller's book to the Italian queen with a personal dedication. He outlived his nemesis Moynier by just two months. Despite the ICRC's congratulations at the bestowal of the Nobel prize, the two rivals never reached a reconciliation.
According to his wishes, he was buried without ceremony in the Sihlfeld Cemetery in Zürich. In his will, he donated funds to secure a "free bed" in the Heiden nursing home always to be available for a poor citizen of the region and deeded some money to friends and charitable organizations in Norway and Switzerland. The remaining funds went to his creditors partially relieving his debt; his inability to fully erase his debts was a major burden to him until his death.
