Cahier
Bernard. 2008-07-10

81

Born 1927-00-00. Domain:Journalism. Cause of death:Age

In 1968 he became one of the founder members of the IRPA and in later years became its chief advocate and the representative of the media in F1 circles. This led to inevitable tension with Jean-Marie Balestre and Bernie Ecclestone, but Cahier fought well and when denied a pass for the French GP fought back by using his connections to get around the system. The fact that his sister was married to Robert Mitterand, brother of President Francois Mitterand, was obviously useful. He continued to play a role in F1 until 1983 when a change in management at Goodyear resulted in the termination of his contract with the US tyre company. he stepped back from the sport, leaving the work to his son. After the conflict with the FIA and FOCA, he remained close to the sport. Run the Cahier Archive, one of the sport's most complete archives.
In 1966 Cahier helped John Frankenheimer to make the Gran Prix movie and even played a role himself.
His son Paul-Henri Cahier also is a sport photographer.

Silverstone 2008 Incident -- Press Release
Following the incident involving Kimi Raikkonen and Paul-Henri Cahier on the starting grid of the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, that saw the finnish driver assault the photographer, we decided that it was necessary to clarify a few points. There never was any contact between the two men, nor did Paul-Henri ever touch Kimi's equipment. Furthermore, the distance at which Paul-Henri Cahier was taking a picture, although close, was completely standard. The photographers who take pictures at Grand Prix races are all professionnals who have been accredited by the FIA, and as the dozen other photographers who were standing next to Paul-Henri Cahier prove, there was nothing unusual or unethical about this situation. Finally, Paul-Henri Cahier has been an F1 photographer for almost fourty years and has been close to the greatest champions, but none of them has ever behaved in such a rude manner. It is understandable that drivers might get irritable because of the pressure they undergo, but Kimi Raikkonen never even attempted to express his discontent in a non violent way. Paul-Henri Cahier luckily did not suffer any injury, and so does not intend to take any action, but he regrets the arrogance with which Kimi Raikkonen treated someone who was merely doing his job.

Zheng was the head of the State Pharmaceutical Administration from 1994 to 1998, head of the State Drug Administration from 1998 to 2003, and head of the State Food and Drug Administration from 2003 to 2005.
Zheng retired in 2005. He first came under investigation by the Communist Party of China's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection in December 2006 and was expelled from the Party in March 2007.
In May 2007, Zheng was convicted of taking bribes and dereliction of duty and sentenced to death by a trial court in Beijing. These corrupt practices are believed to have led to 40 deaths in Panama from cough syrup that contained diethylene glycol in place of glycerin.
Zheng entered an appeal for leniency on June 12, saying that the sentence was "too severe" citing the fact that he had confessed his crimes and cooperated with investigators. However, the court ruled that he was a "great danger" to the country and its reputation.
The appeal was rejected on June 22 and he was executed by shooting.

Born 1950-05-10. Domain:Society. Cause of death:Murder

Fernando Pereira was a freelance Dutch photographer, of Portuguese origin, who drowned when French intelligence (DGSE) used two underwater mines to sink the ship Rainbow Warrior, owned by the environmental organisation Greenpeace.
The bombing of the boat was designed to avoid any casualty, as a small bomb first exploded to "warn" the people on the boat. As the Greenpeace team evacuated the boat, Pereira stayed inside the boat to get his camera and other pieces of equipment. The second, more powerful explosion, designed to sink the boat, knocked him unconscious, which led to his drowning death.

Sarrazin
Albertine. 1967-07-10

29

Born 1937-09-17. Domain:Writing. Cause of death:Operation

She went to Paris where she satisfied her thirst for literature and art while dabbling in prostitution. In 1953, a bungled hold-up had her sent to Fresnes Prison. Upon escaping (and breaking her ankle in the process) she met Julien Sarrazin, and the two were soon married. The two continued to live lives of crime, spending time in and out of jail and keeping contact through letters.
In prison, Sarrazin wrote her first novels, L'Astragale and La Cavale, which were published after her release in 1964. (The astragale of the title is the French word for the talus bone, which both she and the main character of her novel broke on their escapes from jail.) Their success allowed the married couple to settle in Montpellier where she wrote her third story, La Traversière. The novel also performed well, but Sarrazin died shortly afterwards from complications during a kidney surgery.

Vizzini
Calogero (alias: Don Calò Vizzini). 1954-07-10

77

Born 1877-07-24. Domain:Society. Cause of death:Age

Calogero "Don Calò" Vizzini was a historical Sicilian Mafia boss of Villalba in the Province of Caltanissetta, Sicily. Vizzini was considered to be one of the most influential and legendary Mafia bosses of Sicily after World War II until his death in 1954. In the media, he was often depicted as the "boss of bosses" – although such a position does not exist in the loose structure of Cosa Nostra. Don Calò Vizzini died at the age of 76, while entering Villalba in an ambulance that was transporting him home from a clinic in Palermo. Thousands of peasants dressed in black and politicians and priests took part in his funeral, including Mussomeli boss Giuseppe Genco Russo and the powerful boss Don Francesco Paolo Bontade from Palermo (the father of future Mafia boss Stefano Bontade) – who was one of the pallbearers. Even The New York Times reported the news of the death of this local Mafia chief.
