Harry Belafonte (born Harold George Bellanfanti Jr) was an American singer, actor and activist, who popularized calypso music with international audiences in the 1950s. Belafonte is one of the few performers to have received an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (EGOT), although he won the Oscar in a non-competitive category. He earned his career breakthrough with the album Calypso (1956), which was the first million-selling LP by a single artist. Belafonte was best known for his recordings of "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)", "Jump in the Line (Shake, Senora)", "Jamaica Farewell", and "Mary's Boy Child". He recorded and performed in many genres, including blues, folk, gospel, show tunes, and American standards. He also starred in films such as Carmen Jones (1954), Island in the Sun (1957), Odds Against Tomorrow (1959), Buck and the Preacher (1972), and Uptown Saturday Night (1974). He made his final screen appearance in Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman (2018).

Jacquelyn Crowell was an American racing cyclist. She was a graduate from the University of Florida with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in October 2013 after a hemorrhage caused temporary paralysis on her right side. She underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation under the supervision of doctors at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University. In a speech given in May 2014, she discussed her mindset and prognosis. In the last years of her life, Crowell worked part-time at the Dick Lane Velodrome, where she taught bicycle racing to younger riders. She died , 2018 at the age of 30 after a 5 year battle with cancer.

He was an American graphic designer and Oscar winning filmmaker, best known for his design of motion picture title sequences, film posters, and corporate logos. Bass designed some of the most iconic corporate logos in North America, including the AT&T "bell" logo in 1969, as well as AT&T's "globe" logo in 1983 after the breakup of the Bell System. He also designed Continental Airlines' 1968 "jetstream" logo and United Airlines' 1974 "tulip" logo which became some of the most recognized airline industry logos of the era.

Dexter Gordon was an American jazz tenor saxophonist, and an Academy Award-nominated actor. He is considered one of the first bebop tenor players. A famous photograph by Herman Leonard of Gordon smoking a cigarette during a set at the Royal Roost in New York City in 1948 is one of the more iconic images in the history of jazz. Gordon died of kidney failure on April 25, 1990, at age 67. He was voted musician of the year by Down Beat magazine in 1978 and 1980, and in the latter year was inducted into Down Beat's Jazz Hall of Fame.

Céleste Albaret (née Gineste, was a country girl who moved to Paris in 1913 when she married the taxi driver Odilon Albaret; she is best known for being the writer and essayist Marcel Proust's housekeeper and secretary. Lonely and bored in the capital, and at her husband's suggestion, Albaret began to run errands for Proust, who was her husband's most regular client. Before very long she became his secretary and housekeeper. During the final decade of Proust's life, when his health declined and he became progressively more withdrawn, even while working with continuing intensity on his writing, she became his nurse and "the writer’s most trusted conduit to the world beyond his reclusive, cork-lined bedroom". Proust immortalised his housekeeper as Françoise in "À la recherche du temps perdu". There is also a character called Célestine in "Sodome et Gomorrhe".

Le vendredi 25 avril 1975 à 11 h du matin, Mike Brant se suicide du 6e étage de l'immeuble situé au 6 de la rue Erlanger à Paris à l'âge de 28 ans. Plusieurs thèses ont été mises en avant pour expliquer sa mort prématurée. Certains ont parlé de sa difficulté de plus en plus pesante d'assumer son succès, tandis que d'autres ont défendu la version du traumatisme psychologique qui touche les enfants de déportés. Sanders committed suicide in Castelldefels (a coastal town near Barcelona, Catalonia) with an overdose of barbiturates, leaving behind a suicide note that attributed his action to boredom. His friend David Niven recorded in his autobiography that Sanders had predicted his own suicide many years earlier. The note read: "Dear World, I am leaving because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool. Good luck."
