Ghostley's role of Esmerelda was created after the passing of Marion Lorne in May 1968, who portrayed the lovable, forgetful Aunt Clara. Rather than replace the character, Bewitched producers opted to create a new, befuddled character with Esmerelda. Interestingly, Lorne and Ghostley appeared side-by-side in The Graduate as partygoers Miss DeWitte and Mrs. Singleman the year before Lorne's passing.

Griffith
Dolorez (alias: Florence Griffith-Joyner). 1998-09-21

38

Born 1959-12-21. Domain:Sport. Cause of death:Other

In 1998, Griffith-Joyner died in her sleep at her home in Mission Viejo, California. On October 22, the sheriff-coroner's office (it was an unexpected death) announced the cause of death as: "1) positional asphyxia 2) epileptiform seizure 3) cavernous angioma, left orbital frontal cerebrum".
The cavernous angioma referred to a brain abnormality discovered during the autopsy that made Joyner subject to seizures. It is in fact, a congenital defect, having developed at birth. In 1990 she had, according to a family attorney, suffered a grand mal seizure and had been treated for seizures in 1990, 1993 and 1994.
The cause of death in effect said that she had suffocated in her pillow during a severe epileptic seizure.
Her retirement from competitive track and field after her 1988 Olympic Games triumph further fueled the controversy as mandatory random drug testing was about to be implemented in 1989. Under the less stringent testing schedule during her career, no evidence was found that Griffith-Joyner used performance enhancing drugs.
She stunned the world when—known as a 200 m runner—she ran a new 100 m World Record of 10.49 in the quarter-finals of the US Olympic Trials. Reporters at the event commented that although the wind meter measured 0.0—indicating no wind—there was visual evidence of considerable wind in the stadium at the time of the race. Every event on that day measured excessive wind speeds and this led many to later suggest that the wind meter in the stadium malfunctioned during the race, but the record is still recognized. Joyner, her coach stated that he believed the 10.49 run to be wind aided as well. Flo-Jo never ran faster than 10.61 without excessive wind assistance that season.

de Montherlant
Henry. 1972-09-21

76

Born 1896-04-21. Domain:Writing. Cause of death:Suicide

De Montherlant published Le solstice de Juin in 1941 -- an essay in which he expressed his admiration for the German army and claimed that France was justly defeated and conquered in World War II.
Montherlant mostly hid his pederastic tendencies during his lifetime. In 1912, he had been expelled from the prestigious Sainte-Croix de Neuilly school for a relationship with a younger pupil. His novel Les garçons (1969) and his correspondence with Roger Peyrefitte (author of Les amitiés particulières (1943), also about homosexual relationships between boys at a Roman Catholic boarding school), are the main testaments to this side of his character.
Between 1960 and 1972, Montherlant was a member of the Académie française. According to Peyrefitte, he was beaten up by some youths which caused a serious injury to his eye. He was going blind on account of that and he committed suicide in 1972.

Bonaparte
Marie. 1962-09-21

80

Born 1882-07-02. Domain:Society. Cause of death:Unknown

She was a French psychoanalyst, closely linked with Sigmund Freud. Her wealth contributed to the popularity of psychoanalysis, and enabled Freud's escape from Nazi Germany.
She was born at Saint-Cloud, a town in Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France. Her mother died of an embolism induced by giving birth to Marie.
She died of leukemia in Saint-Tropez, was cremated in Marseilles, and her ashes were interred in Prince George's tomb at Tatoï, near Athens.
Marie consulted Sigmund Freud for treatment of her own frigidity, a cure which can be said to have backfired, as she later conducted affairs with Freud's disciple Rudolph Loewenstein, as she had with the Prime Minister of France, Aristide Briand. It was to Marie Bonaparte that Sigmund Freud remarked, "The great question that has never been answered and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is ‘What does a woman want?’".
