In September 2006, Drew was reported to be in ill-health after being admitted to St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, to undergo tests for suspected cancer. The Evening Herald reported that Drew's apparent illness was due to years of heavy drinking. However, according a fan site dedicated to The Dubliners, it was reported that he was undergoing treatment for throat cancer. (Drew had been a teetotaler for a number of years, with an occasional relapse. However, he remained a regular smoker.)
Despite his ailing health, Drew featured on an album entitled Pearls produced by Niall Austin with work Drew did with Jah Wobble.
His wife of over 40 years, Deirdre Drew (née McCartan) died on 7 June 2007 at St Vincent's Hospital. She died just a day before Ronnie was due to return to performing after his battle with cancer, at the Legends of Irish Folk concert with Johnny McEvoy, Ralph McTell and Finbar Furey.
On 25 October 2007 Ronnie Drew appeared on Ryan Confidential on RTÉ 1 to give an interview about his role in The Dubliners, his life since leaving the band and being diagnosed with throat cancer. This was Ronnie's first ever televised appearance where he was shown bald and beardless. Later in 2007, Ronnie again appeared on the Late Late Show, where he again spoke about the death of his wife and his ongoing treatment for cancer.
Drew died in St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, following his long illness and was buried three days later in Redford Cemetery in Greystones.

The Texas Seven was a group of prisoners who escaped from the John Connally Unit near Kenedy, Texas, on December 13, 2000. They were apprehended a little more than a month later, on January 21–23, 2001, as a direct result of the television show America's Most Wanted. On December 13, 2000, the seven carried out an elaborate scheme and escaped from the John B. Connally Unit, a maximum-security state prison near the South Texas city of Kenedy. A friend of Wade Holder, the owner of the Coachlight Motel and R.V. Park in Woodland Park, Colorado, happened to watch the television program America's Most Wanted on January 20, 2001. He believed that the Texas 7, who were being compared to Ángel Maturino Reséndiz, were in Holder's trailer park and informed Holder so. When he confirmed this, he reported the suspicious activities to local authorities the next day on January 21. The El Paso County Sheriff's Department SWAT team found Garcia, Rodriguez, and Rivas in a Jeep Cherokee in the RV Park. Authorities moved in and captured them at a nearby gas station. Rodriguez announced that he wished to forgo any further appeal (beyond the appeal to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, mandatory in all death-penalty cases). He underwent a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation in January 2007, which concluded that he was mentally competent to decide to forgo further appeals, and he was executed on August 14, 2008, the first of the surviving members to be executed.

In 2001, he followed former Jordan colleague Mike Gascoyne to Benetton, which had been sold to Renault the previous year and was rebranded as such in 2002. At the end of 2003 he replaced the departing John Iley as Chief Aerodynamicist, and held this position until June 2008, when he left due to ill health. His stint with Renault included the team's back-to-back Drivers' and Constructors' championships in 2005 and 2006.

On March 20, 2006, Roger Friedman of Fox News reported that Hayes had suffered a stroke in January. Hayes spokeswoman Amy Harnell denied that Hayes had had a stroke, but on October 26, 2006 Hayes himself confirmed that he did.
Hayes was found unconscious in his home located just east of Memphis, Tennessee on August 10, 2008 as reported by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department. A Shelby County Sheriff's deputy responded to Hayes's home after his wife found him on the floor near a still-running treadmill. Hayes was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, where he was pronounced dead at 2:08pm. The cause of death was not immediately known, though authorities subsequently listed stroke as the cause of death. At the time of his death, he was preparing his first new studio album since 1995.
During the late-1990s, Hayes became popular again, as the voice of Chef on the Comedy Central series South Park. Chef was a soul-singing cafeteria worker at the South Park kids' school. A song from the series performed by Chef, "Chocolate Salty Balls (P.S. I Love You)", received some international radio airplay in 1999. It reached number-one on the UK singles chart and also on the Irish singles chart. The track also appeared on the album Chef Aid: The South Park Album in 1998.

Darwish had a history of heart problems: After a heart attack in 1984, he underwent heart surgery. In 1998, he was operated on again. His last return visit to Palestine was on 15 July 2007 to attend a poetry recital at Mt. Carmel Auditorium, in which he criticized the factional violence between Fatah and Hamas as a "suicide attempt in the streets".

His most noted film role was as Frank Catton in the remake Ocean's Eleven and its two sequels. Mac also starred in several films, including Mr. 3000. He was the star of The Bernie Mac Show, which ran from 2001-2006, earning two Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. His other films included Friday, Bad Santa, Pride, and Transformers.
Mac suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005.
On July 24, 2008, he was hospitalized with an infection, that was later identified as pneumonia. The news of his hospitalization would not be announced for over a week, when his publicist claimed that Mac had pneumonia. The next day, responding to rumors that the actor was in "very, very critical condition," his publicist said that he was responding well to treatment, and should be released soon. On August 9, his publicist announced that Mac had died from complications of pneumonia unrelated to sarcoidosis.

He was an Italian engineer and manager, former CEO of the Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, founded by his grandfather Battista "Pinin" Farina in 1930 and still controlled by the family. He was the son of Sergio Pininfarina and was married to Italian aristocrat Cristina Maddalena Pellion di Persano, with whom he had three children.
Pininfarina died while riding a Vespa scooter, near the company’s headquarters in Cambiano, outside Turin, Italy, on the morning of August 7, 2008. According to police at the scene, the dynamics of the accident were clear; without seeing the approaching scooter, a car, driven by a 78 year old man, maneuvered from a side street around a parked lorry unloading sand, pulling directly in front of Mr. Pininfarina, whose scooter then impacted the car head-on. Conditions at the time of the accident were very foggy.

Jones died as a result of head injuries sustained in a fall and subsequent collision during the Brands Hatch round of the 2008 Supersport World Championship season.
The fall occurred at Clark Curve, a fast right-hand turn that leads into the home straight of the Brands Hatch circuit. At the time of the fall, Jones was in second position and challenging Jonathan Rea for the lead. As Jones accelerated out of the curve the rear wheel of his Honda CBR600RR lost traction and he was thrown across the track into the path of oncoming riders. The Australian rider Andrew Pitt attempted to take evasive action, but the front wheel of his machine collided with Jones' helmet.
The race was immediately stopped by officials so that medical personnel could attend to Jones, and he was taken to the Brands Hatch medical centre where Clinica Mobile doctors resuscitated him on four occasions. He was air-lifted by the Kent Air Ambulance to the Royal London Hospital. Jones' condition was assessed as 'extremely critical' upon his arrival and he was induced into a pharmacological coma by doctors in an attempt to stabilise his condition. This intervention was unsuccessful and Jones was pronounced dead by doctors shortly after 00.30 local time on 4 August, 2008. As Jones was running second in the race at the time of the race stoppage, he moved up to fifth in the championship. Fellow racers Tommy Hill and James Toseland were at his bedside as he died.

The Nagell–Lutz theorem in Diophantine geometry describes the torsion points of elliptic curves; it is named after Lutz and Trygve Nagell, who both published it in the 1930s. Lutz was a student of André Weil at the University of Strasbourg, from 1934 to 1938. She earned a thesis for her research for him, on elliptic curves over p-adic fields.

A Renault Formula One engineer is believed to have shot himself at the team's headquarters.
Thames Valley Police said they are not treating the death of William Millar as suspicious, after he was found on a footpath within the grounds of the Whiteways Research Centre, near Enstone, Oxfordshire.
A police spokeswoman today confirmed that the body was identified by the Oxfordshire coroner as that of the 53-year-old research and development engineer, of Minster Lovell, Oxfordshire.
His body was discovered shortly after 11am on Wednesday after staff heard a gunshot. Mr Millar was found with a single head wound.
The apparent suicide came days before the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, where Renault drivers Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jr will take to the track.
Renault issued a tribute to Mr Millar following his death.
'Everyone at the team is deeply shocked to lose such a valued member of staff who had been with the team for 27 years.
'Before the team was taken over by Renault, he worked for Benetton Formula One. We have a very large site but it happened within the premises on a footpath.
'Known as Bill, he was involved in designing anything that can improve the car.'
Local reports said Mr Millar was a married father of two.
Renault stressed yesterday they did not believe the suicide was work-related.
Neighbours of Bill, who lived with bed-ridden wife Valerie in the Cotswolds village of Minster Lovell said he had personal problems.
One added:"Sadly, it seems it all got to much. It's a tragedy. He was a lovely man."
Daughter Lawrie Millar, who answered the door at the family home, said: "We have nothing to say. "
A Thames Valley Police spokeswoman confirmed that the death was not being treated as suspicious. She said: "We were called just after 11am after staff at Renault witnessed a man walking to the bridleway near to the headquarters.
"A gunshot was heard and then the body of a man was discovered on the path."
Renault said the centre's 500 staff had been offered counselling in the wake of Wednesday's tragedy.
A spokeswoman said Mr Millar was popular with his colleagues. She added: "We are all very sad and shocked. William was very well liked. He'll be greatly missed."

Greame Crallan was a British heavy metal drummer from Hartlepool, England. He formed White Spirit along with Janick Gers in 1975.
They released their debut album in 1980. The album flopped and they split up in 1981.
Crallan then joined up with Tank in 1984 and played on their 'Honour and Blood' album. He quit the following year.
He relocated to London and played in a few other bands. On July 27, 2008 Crallan died after sustaining head injuries after a fall in the streets of London.
Peter French, 50, a sub-editor at the Hartlepool Mail, who first met Graeme when he was 11, said: "He will be sorely missed because he was quite a character. I haven't spoken to him for a while but he's very popular and it's a great shock."

Also known as "the Spam King," he was an American e-mail marketer who from July 5, 2002 through April 15, 2007 conducted a Colorado business using the name Power Promoters. The primary nature of Davidson's business consisted of providing promotional services for companies by sending large volumes of unsolicited commercial electronic messages ("spamming"). The spamming was designed to promote the visibility and sale of products offered by various companies. Davidson utilized the services and assistance of other individuals who he hired as "sub-contractors" to provide spamming at his direction on behalf of his client companies.
Davidson was assigned Inmate Number 35082-013 and housed in a minimum security part of the Florence Federal Correctional Complex in Florence, Colorado.
Davidson walked away from a federal prison camp in Florence on July 20, 2008. He was subsequently found dead in Arapahoe County, Colorado on the morning of July 24, 2008, after reportedly killing his wife and three-year-old daughter who was strapped to a car seat, in an apparent murder-suicide. His 16-year-old daughter was also shot, but has survived, while his 7 month old son remained unharmed.

In 2000, Getty stopped making public appearances after revealing she had Parkinson's disease and osteoporosis. In 2002, media reports claimed she was also suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Doctors later discovered she actually had Lewy body dementia; both the Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diagnoses were incorrect. In 2003, Lifetime television hosted a Golden Girls reunion, but Getty did not appear due to her failing health.
Getty was married to Arthur Gettleman (from whose name she adapted her stage name) from 1946 until his death in 2004. Getty had two sons: Carl Gettleman, who lives in California, and Barry Gettleman, who lives in Florida.
In 1991, as later reported in Star magazine, Getty helped her 29-year-old nephew Steven Scher, who was suffering from the final stages of AIDS and near death. Because Scher's parents lived in England and his friends were no longer able to care for him in Greensboro, North Carolina, Getty had him flown to California and admitted to hospice care. He died in January 1992.

Kolonics died in Budapest due to heart failure. He lost consciousness during training and the attending paramedics could not save him. Autopsy found a small amount of plaque in his coronary arteries which might explain his death. Following his death, a press debate evolved between his long-time trainer Róbert Ludasi and the Hungarian National Ambulance Service (OMSz). Ludasi blamed the ambulance for arriving to the spot allegedly only after 37 minutes and having no defibrillator in the car, while the OMSz claimed arriving in 17 minutes and starting to defibrillate Kolonics almost immediately afterwards. They also said that bandages were found on the canoeist's body (the existence of which was denied by the trainer) to reduce muscular fatigue, which is potentially dangerous for people having heart problems.
