Westergaard Kurt (b. 1935-07-13 / d. 2021-07-14)
Kurt Westergaard (born Kurt Vestergaard) was a Danish cartoonist famous for creating the controversial cartoon of a terrorist, although not the Islamic prophet Muhammad as it is often claimed, wearing a bomb in his turban. This cartoon was the most contentious of the 12 Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons, which met with strong reactions from Muslims worldwide who condemned the act, including Western countries. After the drawing of the cartoon, Westergaard received numerous death threats and was a target of assassination attempts. As a result, he was under constant police protection

Lord Menuhin died in Berlin, Germany following a brief illness, from complications of bronchitis.
When Bartok was lost in poverty, and was stubbornly refusing help of any kind ( regarding it as degrading), Menuhin bought him a sonata.
Menuhin made several recordings with the German conductor Wilhelm Furtwangler, who had been criticized for conducting in Germany during the Nazi era. Menuhin defended Furtwangler, noting that the conductor had helped a number of Jewish musicians to flee Nazi Germany.
The name Yehudi means 'Jew' in Hebrew.
Ironically, in November 2005 his son Gerard was dismissed from his post as chairman of the Yehudi-Menuhin-Stiftung for alleged neo-Nazi opinions.

According to biographer Maury Allen, Joe was so alarmed at how Marilyn had returned to her self-destructive ways, falling in with people he felt detrimental to her (including Frank Sinatra and his "Rat Pack"), he quit his job with a military post-exchange supplier on August 1, 1962 to ask her to remarry him. But before he could, she was found dead on August 5, a probable suicide. Devastated, he claimed her body, and arranged her funeral, barring Hollywood's elite. He had a half-dozen red roses delivered 3 times a week to her crypt for the next 20 years. Unlike her other two husbands or other men who knew her intimately (or claimed to), he refused to talk about her publicly or "cash in" on the relationship. He never married again

Many stories abound as to the origins of the names but certainly Dusty herself is quoted as saying that hers was the nickname given her by school friends because she was such a tomboy and loved playing football out in the streets with the boys! The ‘explanation’ for the name ‘Springfields’ comes from the anecdote that they used to rehearse in fields during the spring.
1993 saw the release of the ‘Heart and Soul’ single with Cilla Black to celebrate the latter’s 30 years in the music business and this was followed by what turned out to be Dusty’s last album, ‘A Very Fine Love’. She had for a long time nurtured the desire to return to Nashville. As part of the Springfields all those years previous, she had been asked to stay – it was almost like returning home for her. Nearing the completion of the recording, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment. The album was released in 1995 after Dusty had been given the all clear. The last live television appearance that Dusty made was on the show ‘Later With Jools Holland’ where, accompanied by Alison Moyet and Sinead O’Connor amongst others, she sang the track ‘Where Is A Woman To Go'.
Dusty’s cancer returned and was diagnosed as terminal. She moved to Henley-on-Thames and was able to spend some peaceful times looking out over the garden at the ‘pretty things’ which she always aspired to do.

Michel was born with osteogenesis imperfecta which is a genetic disease that causes brittle bones and in his case short stature. It is also often linked to pulmonary ailments. In his early career his father and brother occasionally carried him, literally, because he could not walk far on his own unaided. In certain respects though he considered it an advantage as it got rid of distractions, like sports, that other boys tended to become involved in.
He had three significant relationships. His first marriage to Italian pianist Gilda Buttà ended in divorce. He also fathered two children, one being a son named Alexandre. One of these children inherited his condition. He also had a stepson named Rachid Roperch.
Michel Petrucciani died at 36 from a pulmonary infection.

He was a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle road racer.
in the 80's, there were only two official circuits in Spain, one in Jarama and the other in Calafat. The team planned test rides before the race, but both circuits were already booked, forcing them to practice in Martorelles. This region of Barcelona was an industrial park near the Derbi factory. The team occasionally had test runs in this area, blocking off the roads to ensure that no cars would interfere with the racers. However, during a practice prior to the Spanish Grand Prix, a vehicle gained access to the area from one of the team’s assistants who was supposed to have blocked off all of the roads. Tragically, Tormo, who was testing a new racing suit, hit the car and shattered his right leg. The accident marked the end of his racing career and the beginning of a countless series of operations.
Tormo died from leukemia, which he had been battling for many years. In his honor, Valencia’s racetrack was re-named the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo.

Hunt may have had an encounter with the alleged Abominable Snowman or Yeti of the Himalaya. One night, while camping in the Himalaya, he sensed the presence of a large animal near his tent. When he went out to investigate, he vaguely saw a large creature scurrying away. When later asked why he had not shot at it, he replied, "that would have been murder." On another occasion, in 1951, Hunt's team found and photographed mysterious footprints in the mountain snow allegedly made by the yeti.
In 1953, Hunt was chosen as the leader of the ninth British expedition to Mount Everest and the first to make a successful ascent. Hunt selected two climbing pairs to attempt to reach the summit. The first pair (Tom Bourdillon and Charles Evans) turned back after becoming exhausted high on the mountain. The next day, the expedition made its second and final assault on the summit with second climbing pair. The summit was eventually reached at 11:30 am on 29 May 1953 by the New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay from Nepal climbing the South Col Route. News of the expedition's success reached London on the morning of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.

Jonathan Bruce Postel was an American computer scientist who made many significant contributions to the development of the Internet, particularly with respect to standards. He is known principally for being the Editor of the Request for Comment (RFC) document series, for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), and for administering the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) until his death. In his lifetime he was known as the "god of the Internet" for his comprehensive influence on the medium. The Internet Society's Postel Award is named in his honor, as is the Postel Center at Information Sciences Institute, University of Southern California. His obituary was written by Vint Cerf and published as RFC 2468 in remembrance of Postel and his work. In 2012, Postel was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame by the Internet Society. The Channel Islands' Domain Registry building was named after him in early 2016. Perhaps his most famous legacy is from RFC 760, which includes a robustness principle often called Postel's law: "an implementation should be conservative in its sending behavior, and liberal in its receiving behavior" (reworded in RFC 1122 as "Be liberal in what you accept, and conservative in what you send"). Postel died of complications from heart surgery in Los Angeles, nine months after the DNS Root Authority incident. He was recovering from a surgery to replace a leaking heart valve.

In 1998, Griffith-Joyner died in her sleep at her home in Mission Viejo, California. On October 22, the sheriff-coroner's office (it was an unexpected death) announced the cause of death as: "1) positional asphyxia 2) epileptiform seizure 3) cavernous angioma, left orbital frontal cerebrum".
The cavernous angioma referred to a brain abnormality discovered during the autopsy that made Joyner subject to seizures. It is in fact, a congenital defect, having developed at birth. In 1990 she had, according to a family attorney, suffered a grand mal seizure and had been treated for seizures in 1990, 1993 and 1994.
The cause of death in effect said that she had suffocated in her pillow during a severe epileptic seizure.
Her retirement from competitive track and field after her 1988 Olympic Games triumph further fueled the controversy as mandatory random drug testing was about to be implemented in 1989. Under the less stringent testing schedule during her career, no evidence was found that Griffith-Joyner used performance enhancing drugs.
She stunned the world when—known as a 200 m runner—she ran a new 100 m World Record of 10.49 in the quarter-finals of the US Olympic Trials. Reporters at the event commented that although the wind meter measured 0.0—indicating no wind—there was visual evidence of considerable wind in the stadium at the time of the race. Every event on that day measured excessive wind speeds and this led many to later suggest that the wind meter in the stadium malfunctioned during the race, but the record is still recognized. Joyner, her coach stated that he believed the 10.49 run to be wind aided as well. Flo-Jo never ran faster than 10.61 without excessive wind assistance that season.
