He was an American politician and the 45th governor of Alabama, serving four terms: 1963–1967, 1971–1979 and 1983–1987. After four runs for U. S. president (three as a Democrat and one on the American Independent Party ticket), he earned the title of "the most influential loser" in 20th-century U.S. politics, according to biographers Dan T. Carter and Stephan Lesher. A 1972 assassination attempt left Wallace paralyzed, and he used a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He is remembered for his Southern populist and pro-segregation attitudes during the American desegregation period, convictions he renounced later in life. Wallace died of septic shock from a bacterial infection in Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. He suffered from respiratory problems in addition to complications from his gunshot spinal injury. He is interred at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery.

On 25 June 1998 at approximately 12:30 pm local time, Matoub's car was stopped at a roadblock while he was driving along a mountainous road in eastern Algeria. The car was fired upon by masked gunmen, killing Matoub and wounding his three female passengers. Within hours, news of Matoub's murder had spread throughout Kabylie and thousands of angry mourners gathered around the hospital where his body was taken. The crowd shouted "Pouvoir, Assassin" ("Government, Assassins"). A week of violent riots followed his death. Young demonstrators clashed with riot police and attacked government property. On 28 June 1998 tens of thousands people attended his burial in front of his house in his native village. Matoub's family played them a scathing parody of the Algerian National Anthem which came from Matoub's final album Lettre ouverte aux... ("Open letter to..."), released after his death (Gold-Disc). Matoub's assassination occurred a week before a law excluding languages other than Arabic from public life was due to come in to effect. Matoub had been an outspoken critic of this law. On 30 June 1998 the GIA claimed responsibility for the assassination of Lounes Matoub.

Hartman was murdered by his wife Brynn Hartman in his Encino, Los Angeles County, California home. While he slept, Brynn entered his bedroom with a revolver and fatally shot him multiple times in and around the mouth. Brynn was intoxicated at the time. She subsequently drove to the home of her friend Ron Douglas and, after confessing to the murder, fainted. After she regained consciousness, the pair drove back to Hartman's house in separate cars, where Douglas saw Hartman's body. Douglas then phoned emergency services and admitted to the call operator that he initially did not believe Brynn's story until he had seen Phil's body. On arrival, the police attempted to remove the Hartmans' two young children and Douglas from the premises. While this was happening, Brynn entered the bedroom and committed suicide by shooting herself once through the temple. At the time, an unnamed neighbor of the Hartmans' told a CNN reporter that the couple had been experiencing marital problems: "It's been building, but I didn't think it would lead to this." However, Steve Guttenberg commented that the pair were "a very happy couple, and they always had the appearance of being well-balanced." Phil Hartman directed in his will that his body be cremated, and his ashes were scattered over Santa Catalina Island's Emerald Bay.
The children are now being raised in Edina, Minnesota, by Brynn's sister Katharine Wright and her husband Mike, who have no children of their own.
Out of respect, the writers on The Simpsons retired Hartman's characters, rather than finding another voice actor. The episode "Bart the Mother" marked his final appearance on the show, and was dedicated to him.

Bill Williams was an American game designer, programmer, and author born with cystic fibrosis, an incurable genetic disorder. According to a medical encyclopedia Williams consulted when he was 12, people with cystic fibrosis weren't expected to live past the age of 13. Williams created a string of computer games from 1982 through 1990 for the Atari 8-bit family and then the Amiga which are admired for their imaginative design concepts, innovative sound and music, and skillful implementation. Necromancer is a three-stage game about a wizard growing and controlling an army of trees. Scenarios in Alley Cat include stealthily drinking from the bowls of sleeping dogs, avoiding a sweeping broom to jump inside a fish bowl, and collecting ferns atop a bookcase protected by spiders. Mind Walker, one of the first games released for the Amiga, places the player inside the head of a physics professor gone mad. Late in his career he worked on a licensed title for the Nintendo Entertainment System and another for the Super NES, but became frustrated with the game business and left to attend the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and write two theological works.
