Maigre de la Motte
Guy (alias: Guy de la Motte-Bouloumié). 2022-01-23

Born 1920-01-24. Domain:Society. Cause of death:Age

Guy de la Motte-Bouloumié was not always Guy de la Motte-Bouloumié. More precisely, he wasn't always called like this. On Christmas Eve 1920, he was indeed born Guy Maigre de la Motte, into a noble family from Dauphiné; the Bouloumié line being originating in Rodez. It was not until July 1, 1960, at the age of almost 40, that the man who was to become the great builder of the city of Vittel and the ardent promoter of the Vittel brand throughout the world changed his surname and added to his birth name that of Louis Bouloumié, the founder of the spa. An act directly linked to the thermal epic. Entered in 1947 as an accountant at the Société des eaux after graduating from Sciences Po, this young man, who had just distinguished himself during the liberation of France, was in fact entrusted with the management of the plant two years later. And not by an anonymous board of directors, but by his aunt and uncle, Marie Germaine dite Germaine and Jean Bouloumié, the grandchildren of Louis, who then ran the Company. After Jean's death at the age of 74 in 1952, Germaine, Edith's first cousin, Pierre Bouloumié's daughter and Guy's mother, chose her nephew, whom it is said that she loved him like her son, to succeed her in the management of the family business. In order to facilitate the future handover, which will be effective in 1972, she therefore officially adopts it during the summer of 1960. It was at this time that Guy Maigre de la Motte became Guy Maigre de la Motte-Bouloumié, shortened in Guy de la Motte-Bouloumié.

Born 1926-10-11. Domain:Religious. Cause of death:Age

Thích Nhất Hạnh (/ˈtɪk ˈnjʌt ˈhʌn/; Vietnamese: [tʰǐk̟ ɲə̌t hâjŋ̟ˀ] (audio speaker iconlisten); born as Nguyễn Đình Lang and later known by the name Nguyễn Xuân Bảo) was a Vietnamese Thiền Buddhist monk, peace activist, and founder of the Plum Village Tradition, historically recognized as the main inspiration for engaged Buddhism. Nhất Hạnh spent most of his later life at the Plum Village Monastery in southwest France near Thénac, travelling internationally to give retreats and talks. He coined the term "Engaged Buddhism" in his book Vietnam: Lotus in a Sea of Fire. After a 39-year exile, he was permitted to visit Vietnam in 2005. In November 2018, he returned to Vietnam to spend his remaining days at his "root temple", Từ Hiếu Temple, near Huế, where he died on 22 January 2022 at the age of 95. Nhất Hạnh was active in the peace movement and deep ecology, promoting nonviolent solutions to conflict and raising awareness of the interconnectedness of all elements in nature. He was the founder of the largest monastic order in the West. He also refrained from consuming animal products, as a means of nonviolence toward animals. In November 2014, Nhất Hạnh experienced a severe brain hemorrhage and was hospitalized. After months of rehabilitation, he was released from the stroke rehabilitation clinic at Bordeaux Segalen University, in France. On July 11, 2015, he flew to San Francisco to speed his recovery with an aggressive rehabilitation program at UCSF Medical Center. He returned to France on January 8, 2016. After spending 2016 in France, Nhất Hạnh travelled to Thai Plum Village. He continued to see both Eastern and Western specialists while in Thailand, but was unable to speak. On November 2, 2018, a press release from the Plum Village community confirmed that Nhất Hạnh, then aged 92, had returned to Vietnam a final time and would live at Từ Hiếu Temple for "his remaining days".

Dupré
Guy. 2018-01-17

89

Born 1928-02-27. Domain:Writing. Cause of death:Age

Guy Dupré was a French writer and publisher. Dupré published three novels, two books of memoirs and a collection of chronicles, but the unity of his style and his writing unconcerned with traditional genres makes the same voice heard from one book to the other. At the time of its publication (1953), his first work, Les Fiancées sont froides, was hailed by Albert Béguin, André Breton, and Julien Gracq. This poetic and initiatory account, with its rather obscure intrigue, bears the imprint of German Romanticism. Plotting a fugitive hussar in the time of the Napoleonic wars, it is set on the shores of the Baltic Sea and is not without evoking Le Coup de Grâce (1939) by Marguerite Yourcenar. The subject and the style of the book earned Dupré to be attached to the movement of the Hussards. Guy Dupré joined the publishing house Plon, which has long specialized in military memorabilia. He prepared a biography of General Charles Mangin that was never completed but whose face would appear in Le Grand coucher. He made an anthology of Maurice Barrès (Mes Cahiers, Plon, 1962), an anthology of the Chroniques de la Grande Guerre of the same (Plon, 1968), as well as the cross-correspondence between Maurice Barrès and Charles Maurras: La République ou le Roi, correspondance 1888-1923, Plon, 1970. Close to novelist Jean Parvulesco, he wrote the preface for his L'Étoile de l'Empire invisible (Guy Trédaniel, 1994).

Guyard-Guillot
Sarah. 2013-06-29

31

Born 1982-00-00. Domain:Sport. Cause of death:Accident

The first ever death of an acrobat from "Le cirque du soleil" during a performance. During the final battle scene of Kà, the stage is oriented vertically and performers use harnesses attached to cables to move about. During this scene at the 9:30pm show on June 29, 2013, Guyard-Guillot was hoisted up the side of the stage to a height of at least 50 feet (15 m) (some eyewitnesses said it may have been over 100 feet (30 m)). According to an eyewitness, she "then just plummeted down." Her harness apparently slipped free from its safety wire, causing her to fall into a pit, out of the audience's view. A spokesperson confirmed that the harness itself remained on Guyard-Guillot during her fall. "Initially, a lot of people in the audience thought it was part of the choreographed fight," said an eyewitness. "But you could hear screaming, then groaning, and we could hear a female artist crying from the stage." After her fall, the show was quickly stopped and a recording asked the audience to leave and said refunds would be offered. The other performers watched helplessly as they dangled in the air, before being lowered to safety. Guyard-Guillot died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. She was pronounced dead at 11:43 pm. Guyard-Guillot's death was the first on-stage death in Cirque du Soleil's 30-year history. She is survived by her two children aged 8 and 5. She was 31 at the time of her death. On July 2, 2013, the Clark County Coroner's office said Guyard-Guillot fell around 90 feet (27 m), which is almost twice the distance reported initially. She died of blunt force trauma.

Vandervell
Guy Anthony. 1967-03-10

69

Born 1898-09-08. Domain:Business. Cause of death:Age

Guy Anthony "Tony" Vandervell was a British industrialist, motor racing financier, and founder of the Vanwall Formula One racing team. Increasing age and the strains of running a high-profile sporting team had taken its toll on Tony Vandervell's health. Vandervell had been deeply affected by Lewis-Evans's death, and in January 1959 he announced that he would not be continuing with the team. The loss of Vandervell's drive, ambition and money crippled Vanwall, and the team never again won a World Championship race. Vanwall struggled on with a new car in 1959. The same vehicle was run occasionally in non-championship events in 1960, but after 1961 when Lotus experimented with a Vanwall engine in one of their chassis, the Vanwall name disappeared from F1. The last Vanwall car was built to Intercontinental Formula rules for John Surtees in 1962. This series was unsuccessful and Vanwall folded for good, fewer than four years after their world domination. Tony Vandervell withdrew from public life after leaving Vanwall. He died in March 1967. Just seven weeks earlier he had married his personal secretary, Marian Moore.
