Christopher Jordan Dorner was a Los Angeles police officer who, beginning on February 3, 2013, committed a series of shootings in Orange County, Los Angeles County, Riverside County and San Bernardino County, California. The victims were law enforcement officers and the daughter of a former police captain. Dorner killed four people and wounded three others. On February 12, 2013, Dorner died during a standoff with San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputies after a shootout at a cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains. A manifesto posted by Dorner on Facebook declared "unconventional and asymmetric warfare" upon the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), their families and their associates, unless the LAPD admitted publicly he was fired in retaliation for reporting excessive force. In two separate incidents during the manhunt, police shot at three civilians unrelated to Dorner, mistaking their pickup trucks for the vehicle being driven by Dorner (which was a dark gray 2005 Nissan Titan). One of the civilians was hit by the police gunfire, another was wounded by shattered glass, and a third individual was injured when police rammed his vehicle and opened fire. The officers involved were not charged with any crime.

Born 1921-01-22. Domain:Science (Physics style). Cause of death:Age

He was an American motorsports engineer. After serving in the Army, he began working with friends who raced by building race cars, developing hydroplane parts and engine swap kits. In the late 1950s he became chief engineer to Lance Reventlow, building the Scarab sports racing car on Princeton Street in what is now Marina del Rey, California. When Reventlow was closing his shop, Carroll Shelby hired Remington as his chief engineer in Shelby's new shop on the same street. Shelby said his competition success was due to Remington. When Shelby American was split up, Remington remained with the Shelby Racing Components company in Torrance. Remington moved to North Carolina in 1968 to run the Talladega Grand National stock car program at Holman and Moody. The team won the Daytona 500 that year. He moved back to California and worked at Dan Gurney's All American Racers (AAR). There Remington worked on Can-Am, Formula 1, Formula 5000, Indy 500, Trans-Am, GTP and IMSA cars. He also worked on Alligator Motorcycles and did contract work for aerospace while there. In 2012 he built the oil and water coolers and engineered the suspension on the DeltaWing race car. Health concerns caused him to discontinue working full-time at AAR in 2012.

Winner

Born 1935-10-30. Domain:Directing. Cause of death:Other

He was an English film director and producer, and a restaurant critic for The Sunday Times. By the early 1980s, Winner found himself in great need of a successful film and accepted Charles Bronson's request to film Death Wish II, a sequel to the 1974 hit. Bronson had already signed a lucrative deal with Cannon Films, independent producer of exploitation fare and marginal art house titles. The sequel, co-starring Bronson's wife Jill Ireland, is considered a rehash of Death Wish with violence raised to more graphic levels. Winner became engaged to Geraldine Lynton-Edwards in 2007. They had met in 1957 when he was a 21-year-old film-maker and she was a 16-year-old actress and ballet dancer. He stated "I have told Geraldine that it took me 72 years to get engaged so she's not to hold her breath for the marriage". However, they did marry, on 19 September 2011 at Chelsea Town Hall, London. Michael and Shakira Caine were witnesses to the ceremony. On 1 January 2007, Winner acquired the bacterial infection Vibrio vulnificus from eating an oyster in Barbados. He almost had a leg amputated and verged on the brink of death several times. Before recovering, Winner was infected with the "hospital superbug" MRSA. In September 2011, Winner was also admitted to hospital with food poisoning after eating steak tartare, a raw meat dish, four days in a row. The dish is not recommended for those with a weak immune system and in retrospect Winner regarded his decision to eat it as "stupid". In an interview with The Times newspaper, Winner said liver specialists had told him in summer 2012 that he had between 18 months and two years to live. He said he had researched assisted suicide offered at the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland, but found the bureaucracy of the process off-putting.

The final decade of Collins's life was marred by several run-ins with the law. In January 2008, Collins served four days in jail in Glendale, California, for his second DUI conviction. He was arrested a year later, on January 31, 2009, in Santa Barbara County, California, and pleaded no contest to driving a motor home while drunk.
