Whittle Frank (b. 1907-06-01 / d. 1996-08-09)
Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle was a British Royal Air Force (RAF) engineer officer. He is credited with independently inventing the turbojet engine (some years earlier than Germany's Dr. Hans von Ohain) and is regarded by many as the father of jet propulsion. Von Ohain allegedly stated that if the RAF had taken Whittle's design seriously when it was first submitted, there would have been no World War II. As it was found later in the war the fighter superiority over Europe was key to winning the war in Europe.

For more than 30 years, Gabrielle Chanel made the Hôtel Ritz Paris her home, even during the Nazi occupation of Paris. She owes Winston Churchill not to get in trouble for having written to the Kommandantur about the brothers Wertheimer, founders of la maison Bourjois. She was accused of antisemitism after using the word "youpin" in this letter.

He was an American soldier and likely the last soldier of any of the belligerents to be killed during World War I. He was killed at 10:59 a.m., about one minute before the Armistice was to take effect at 11:00 a.m. Gunther had recently been demoted, and was seeking to regain his rank just before the war ended.
