In the late 1950s he became chief engineer to Lance Reventlow, building the Scarab sports racing car on Princeton Street in what is now Marina del Rey, California. When Reventlow was closing his shop, Carroll Shelby hired Remington as his chief engineer in Shelby's new shop on the same street. Shelby said his competition success was due to Remington. When Shelby American was split up, Remington remained with the Shelby Racing Components company in Torrance. Remington moved to North Carolina in 1968 to run the Talladega Grand National stock car program at Holman and Moody. The team won the Daytona 500 that year. He moved back to California and worked at Dan Gurney's All American Racers (AAR). There Remington worked on Can-Am, Formula 1, Formula 5000, Indy 500, Trans-Am, GTP and IMSA cars. He also worked on Alligator Motorcycles and did contract work for aerospace while there. In 2012 he built the oil and water coolers and engineered the suspension on the DeltaWing race car. Hengel

16

Born 1995-00-00. Domain:Society. Cause of death:Suicide

On November 29, 2010, he took multiple classmates and a teacher hostage for five hours. Although described as a good student with no previous law enforcement contact, Hengel took his own life via gunshot wound. He was initially taken to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette, and then was transferred to St. Vincent Medical Center in Green Bay, where he was later pronounced dead at approximately 10:44am on November 30th 2010. He was described as a good, well-liked 4.0 student who had never been bullied. Marinette police interviewed the boy's parents and survivors; many classmates expressed surprise when interviewed by reporters. Those held hostage said that they had joked and talked with him - producing some lighter moments - about hunting and fishing, which were some of Samuel's hobbies. They and social studies teacher Valerie Burd were credited with keeping Samuel and everyone else relatively calm, which likely helped keep the situation from deteriorating to a far worse point where people could have been hurt or killed. Police said that a few shots were fired at equipment when the crisis began (it had actually begun sometime earlier than 3:45 PM, when the first 911 call was placed). Police stated he had likely gone out to get the guns from a locker or bathroom on a break, rather than bringing them along. At one point early in the crisis, the principal briefly came to the room but called 911 after being turned away at gunpoint by Samuel, who told him to leave. The students being held captive said they did not feel they were in danger despite the earlier shots. Ultimately, police inside were forced to break down the door and storm the room when they heard three shots which did not hit anybody. Before police could intervene, Samuel pointed the gun at himself (he did not threaten the officers) and fatally shot himself

Tanner
Evan. 2008-09-08

37

Born 1971-02-11. Domain:Sport. Cause of death:Accident

He was an American professional mixed martial arts fighter.
In an entry posted on his Spike-TV blog on August 27, Tanner wrote,
"I've been sitting around this apartment, bored to tears, waiting on the last of the gear I need for the desert adventure to come in the mail. I've really been looking forward to getting out there. I've been writing about it a little bit here. It seems some MMA websites have reported on the story, posting up that I might die out in the desert, or that it might be my greatest opponent yet, etc. Come on guys. It's really common down in southern California to go out to the off road recreation areas in the desert about an hour away from LA and San Diego. So my plan is to go out to the desert, do some camping, ride the motorcycle, and shoot some guns. Sounds like a lot of fun to me. A lot of people do it. This isn't a version of "Into the Wild". I'm not going out into the desert with a pair of shorts and a bowie knife, to try to live off the land. I'm going fully geared up, and I'm planning on having some fun.
I do plan on going back pretty far, so I did mention in one of my posts that I wanted to make sure to have good quality gear. Any failure of gear out in the desert could cause a problem."
Tanner had recently purchased a dirt bike, and on September 3 he rode into the desert-like region north of Brawley, California to go camping.
According to Tanner's manager John Hayner, Tanner called that afternoon to say that his bike had run out of gas, and that he would accordingly walk back to civilization. Temperatures that day reached 114 degrees Fahrenheit, and friends became concerned and reported Tanner missing after he failed to contact them. His body was discovered by a Marine helicopter on September 8, and the Imperial County sheriff's office cited heat exposure as a preliminary cause of death.

Altantuyaa
Shaariibuugiin. 2006-10-19

28

Born 1978-00-00. Domain:Society. Cause of death:Murder

She was a murder victim who was either murdered by C-4 explosives or was somehow killed first and her remains destroyed with C-4 in October 2006 in a deserted area in Shah Alam, Malaysia near Kuala Lumpur.
She was allegedly introduced to Abdul Razak Baginda, a defense analyst from the Malaysian Strategic Research Centre think-tank, at an international diamond convention in Hong Kong by Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Najib Tun Razak, and had a relationship with him. She reportedly had worked as Abdul Razak’s translator on a deal he was brokering for the Malaysian government to buy submarines from France. The pair seem to have travelled to Paris together for the submarine deal. The two quickly became romantically involved. Altantuya, nicknamed Tuya by her friends, proved to be a useful assistant, helping Baginda translate from Russian to English. Amy, Altantuya’s best friend said that at the end of March 2005 the couple was in Paris, where they met with Najib Razak. She mentioned that a picture was taken which showed the three in a Parisian private club. “Tuya showed me the pix. She said that one of the men was her boyfriend, Abdul Razak Baginda, and the other the “big boss”, Najib Razak. I asked her if they were brothers because of the names, but she said no, and that Najib Razak was the ‘prime minister’”.
In October 2006, the French newspaper Liberation claimed that Altantuya was informed that the commission paid by Armaris, a Spanish company involved in Malaysia’s acquisition of three submarines for one billion euros (RM4.7 billion), had been deposited in a bank account in Malaysia. The commission of 114 million euros was allegedly paid into the account of Perimekar, a company Razak controlled. Altantuya then allegedly flew to Kuala Lumpur with her cousin to demand her share of the commission, which was to have been US$500,000.
When she went missing on 19 October 2006, her cousin lodged a police report and sought help from the Mongolian embassy in Bangkok. Altantuya, by her own admission in the last letter she wrote before her murder, had been blackmailing Razak.
The Malaysian police found fragments of bone, later verified as hers, in forested land near the Subang Dam in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam. Police investigation of her remains revealed that she was shot twice before C-4 explosives were used on her remains, although there has been later suggestion that the C-4 explosives may have killed her. When her remains were found their identity could only be confirmed with DNA testing. The provenance of the C-4 remains unclear.

Irwin
Stephen (alias: The crocodile hunter). 2006-09-04

Born 1962-02-22. Domain:TV/Radio. Cause of death:Accident

Irwin was fatally pierced in the chest by a stingray spine while snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef, at Batt Reef, which is located off the coast of Port Douglas in Queensland. Irwin was in the area filming his own documentary, Ocean's Deadliest, but weather had stalled filming. Irwin decided to take the opportunity to film some shallow water shots for a segment in the television program his daughter Bindi was hosting, when, according to his friend and colleague, John Stainton, he swam too close to one of the stingrays. "He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart," said Stainton, who was on board Irwin's boat the Croc One.
The events were caught on camera, and a copy of the footage was handed to the Queensland Police. After reviewing the footage of the incident and speaking to the cameraman who recorded it, marine documentary filmmaker and former spearfisherman Ben Cropp speculated that the stingray "felt threatened because Steve was alongside and there was the cameraman ahead." In such a case, the stingray responds to danger by automatically flexing the serrated spine on its tail (which can measure up to 25 cm or about 10 inches in length) in an upward motion.
Ironically, the stingray was not the creature being filmed. It was deemed "not dangerous enough" to be featured in the documentary.

The surgery saved Selby's life, but left him with a year-long recuperation and chronic pulmonary problems for the rest of his life. The medical treatments also marked the beginning of Selby's dependence on painkillers and heroin, an addiction that lasted for decades.
During the last years of his life, Selby suffered from depression and fits of rage. The last month of his life Selby spent in and out of the hospital. He died in Highland Park, Los Angeles of chronic obstructive pulmonary lung disease.

Clarke
Joan Elisabeth. 1996-09-04

Born 1917-06-24. Domain:Science (Math style). Cause of death:Age

Joan Elisabeth Lowther Murray, MBE (née Clarke) was an English cryptanalyst and numismatist best known for her work as a code-breaker at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. Although she did not personally seek the spotlight, her role in the Enigma project that decrypted Nazi Germany's secret communications earned her awards and citations, such as appointment as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), in 1946. Hugh Alexander, head of Hut 8 from 1943 to 1944, described her as "one of the best Banburists in the section". Alexander himself was regarded as the best of the Banburists. He and I. J. Good considered the process more an intellectual game than a job. It was "not easy enough to be trivial, but not difficult enough to cause a nervous breakdown". Banburismus was a cryptanalytic process developed by Alan Turing at Bletchley Park in Britain during the Second World War. It was used by Bletchley Park's Hut 8 to help break German Kriegsmarine (naval) messages enciphered on Enigma machines. The process used sequential conditional probability to infer information about the likely settings of the Enigma machine. It gave rise to Turing's invention of the ban as a measure of the weight of evidence in favour of a hypothesis. This concept was later applied in Turingery and all the other methods used for breaking the Lorenz cipher. Clarke and Turing had been close friends since soon after they met, and continued to be until Turing's death in 1954. They shared many hobbies and had similar personalities. They became very good friends at Bletchley Park. Turing arranged their shifts so they could work together, and they also spent much of their free time together. In early 1941, Turing proposed marriage to Clarke, and subsequently introduced her to his family. Although privately admitting his homosexuality to her—she was reportedly "unfazed" by the revelation—Turing decided that he could not go through with the marriage, and broke up with Clarke in mid-1941. Clarke later admitted that she suspected Turing's homosexuality for some time, and it was not much of a surprise when he made the admission to her.

Roland Ratzenberger was killed during qualifying for the San Marino Grand Prix at the Imola circuit on Saturday 30th April, 1994. He struck a wall at the Villeneuve corner at around 300 km/h. After the car carried on down the track, spinning around and stopping at the next corner, Ratzenberger's lolling head was revealed; he had clearly received massive head injuries. Data from the car suggested he had had an off-track excursion on the previous lap and it was widely suggested that a front wing failure linked to this caused the crash.
He was the first racing driver to die at a Grand Prix weekend since the 1982 season, when Riccardo Paletti was killed at the Canadian Grand Prix, coincidentally at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He was the first driver to die in an F1 car since Elio de Angelis during testing in 1986.
The day after Ratzenberger's death, three-times world champion Ayrton Senna was killed in another accident that brought the sport of Formula One under international scrutiny.
